Leading the design for a collaborative project between BEA and centralised defence, I overhauled a legacy platform to help non-technical users, including schools, defend against commodity attacks. The redesign prioritised AAA accessibility standards and strictly compliant usability, earning a BAE Thank You Award for critical contributions to public safety.
Stakeholder Management
Guiding strategic decisions through workshop facilitation.
In a complex stakeholder environment, requests often started as abstract or conflicting desires. I utilised targeted workshops not just to gather requirements, but to guide the business toward a unified vision. These sessions ensured that when stakeholders said "we want this," we collectively defined exactly what "this" meant. By establishing this early alignment on goals and scope, I successfully steered projects from vague concepts into focused, deliverable digital solutions.
Design Systems & Operations
Bridging the gap between design and engineering with scalable, secure component libraries.
I established multiple in-house design systems in Sketch, working directly with frontend teams to ensure design fidelity in a high-security environment. This standardised approach accelerated the delivery of complex interfaces, including secure communication bridges and advanced data filtering tools.
For projects involving multi-vendor teams, we adopted a pragmatic approach. We leveraged MUI (Material Design) as a shared foundational library to bypass the setup time of a custom system, ensuring consistency across teams.
My time at BAE taught me that in high-stakes environments, clarity is not just a preference it's is a safety requirement. Ensuring our interfaces met strict AAA accessibility standards was paramount, as our users ranged from technical experts to the general public (e.g., schools). This role instilled in me a "function-first" philosophy: visual design must always serve the clarity of the data.
